Orthodontics ( Braces )
Orthodontics
is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the
diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial
irregularities. The technical term for these problems is
"malocclusion," which means "bad bite." The practice of
orthodontics requires professional skill in the design,
application and control of corrective appliances (braces) to
bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and achieve
facial balance.
Children should be screened by the age of 7. Catching
orthodontic problems early can save time and money later.
The earlier orthodontic problems are detected and treated,
the better the results. Orthodontics is one way to improve a
person's looks and self-esteem, besides improving the health
of the teeth. Orthodontic treatment gives a person the
opportunity to participate in improvement of his or her
appearance. Increased self-confidence often is observed even
before treatment is completed.
Cost will vary, of course, depending on the nature of the
problem. Many orthodontic problems require only limited
treatment. You may be surprised to discover that braces are
less expensive than you thought. We will be happy to discuss
fees and offer payment plans to help meet individual
financial needs. In addition, many dental insurance plans
now include orthodontic benefits.
