Tooth Development Chart

Children generally develop their teeth before birth. Eruption starts at about six months, usually with the appearance of the lower incisors, and is complete by about two-and-a-half years. The table below will show an estimate chronology of tooth development:

Baby teeth Calcification begins Appearance
Incisors 4 mo (fetal life) 6-9 mo
Canines 5 mo (fetal life) 16-18 mo
1st Molar 6 mo (fetal life) 12-14 mo
2nd Molar 6 mo (fetal life) 20-30 mo

Permanent teeth Calcification begins Appearance
Lower incisors 3-4 mo 6-8 yrs
Upper incisors 4-5 mo  7-9 yrs
Lower Canines 4-5 mo 9-10 yrs
Upper Canines 5-6 mo 11-12 yrs
Premolars 1.5-2.5 yrs 10-12 yrs
1st Molars Birth 6-7 yrs
2nd Molars 2.5-3 yrs 11-13 yrs
3rd Molars 7-10 yrs 17-21 yrs
